Layer vaccination schedule: planning guide
Layers need a longer, more complete vaccination programme than broilers because they stay on the farm for a year and a half or more. Most of the programme is completed before point of lay, at around 18 weeks, with the earliest vaccinations done at the hatchery. Confirm the exact ages and products with your hatchery and a qualified vet.

Vaccination programmes differ by country, hatchery, disease pressure in your area and the vaccines available locally. Treat the ages below as a planning framework and confirm your final programme with a qualified veterinarian or your county or district veterinary office before you buy vaccines.
How the layer programme is usually staged

Records that pay for themselves
- Date, age, vaccine name, batch number, route and who administered it.
- Any reaction seen in the following days.
- Feed and egg records alongside, so you can see if production dips after handling.
Safe things you can do today
- Get the hatchery record before the chicks arrive.
- Write the whole programme on a calendar on day one.
- Plan handling for cool hours to reduce stress.
- Store vaccines cold and use them within the stated window.

Common questions
Can I vaccinate hens that are already laying?
Sometimes, but handling laying hens causes stress and a temporary drop in production. Only do it on veterinary advice and work in the cool hours.
